I know I’m a little late to this party, but I found this pretty inspiring. It’s Bruce Springsteen’s keynote address at the South By Southwest festival on March 15, 2012. While it’s aimed at musicians, most of it would be applicable to any creative effort (by which I mean any effort that needs some creativity, which is pretty much every effort).
For me, the best part was at the end, where he speaks about keeping two contradictory ideas in your head at all times – “if it doesn’t make you crazy, it will make you strong,” he said.
“So, rumble young musicians, rumble. Open your ears and open your hearts. Don’t take yourself too seriously, and take yourself as seriously as death itself. Don’t worry; worry your ass off. Have iron-clad confidence, but doubt; it keeps you awake and alert. Believe you are the baddest-ass in town — and, you suuuuck!”
