Two ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Characters Revealed

See? We told you it wouldn’t be much longer before WB released info on castings for The Dark Knight Rises.

In a press release today, Warner announced that Tom Hardy (who was actually cast in late 2010) will play Bane, and Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Um, yeah, that's a Catwoman, all right.

Bane is the heavily-muscled baddie who broke Batman’s back in the Knightfall story arc in the comic books. He appeared as an idiotic goon in 1997’s god-awful Batman and Robin, but Bane done correctly will be Batman’s intellectual equal as well as a physical bad-ass. Catwoman, of course, is the sometime love interest/sometime foe of Batman who has been portrayed on screen by Lee Meriwether (1966) and Michelle Pfeiffer (1992). (And no, that Halle Berry travesty doesn’t count.)

Rejoice, Bat-nerds; the speculation of what director Christopher Nolan will do with the story and these characters can now begin.

I’m down with Hathaway as Catwoman. hers was the only performance in the recent “Alice in wonderland” I enjoyed. She was the only one that seemed to be aware that she was in a whimsical fantasy film based on a children’s book. Bane? I suppose he’ll be a revamped version of the character. He is clearly in the script to kick Batman’s ass.

Christopher Nolan’s Batman films are awesome because they are more realistic and gritty.
So I’m really looking forward to scenes of Anne Hathaway coughing up a hairball.
