Comedian Patton Oswalt has a new article in Wired that has geeks, dweebs and nerds in an uproar. The essay suggests that nerd culture has become mainstream, too easy to obtain & fodder for remakes/reboots and needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. I take it as a humor essay that also reflects the author’s feelings about how odd it is to live in a time when aspects of pop culture that were once reserved for “geeks” are now valuable corporate properties to be flogged of every last nickel. Many feel the essay is an assault on modern hard-core geeks, and they have taken to the internet to cry: “We’re here, we’re here, we’re here!” Read it if you dare, and take of it what you will. Is it a great time to be a nerd, or the worst?
